today it's the third annual football card Hall of Fame uh and uh started by
Ray fonio and uh his his Council includes Bart bakaru and Scott Nathan
all three will be on the show we do this every year we're going to do it a little bit differently this year because we are
doing double episodes Today's Show is really just going to focus on the 4
cards up for induction there's 45 cards you can vote for your favorite 10 in the
top five vote Getters get in used to be 10 it's now five uh so the class will be
smaller so your vote counts even more so even more important uh to vote the the
vot where you can vote will be in the Show links uh we'll talk about it on the show as well but if you miss it uh go to
the episode notes and uh check it out there this episode part one is going to be strictly the 45 card candidates going
through those and you know weighing in on those our opinions any prior history
on in the uh on the election board what kind of percentage did they get first time on the ballot and that sort of
thing uh so you're going to we're going to really break it down it's going to be a little bit of a longer episode today
so I apologize in advance if you were getting used to the shorter length next week we'll be back to
uh shorter length next week the guys will be back and we'll be talking more about the entity itself the football
card Hall of Fame and what it entails some of the rule changes how it started
uh that sort of thing uh if you're listening to this on Show release they have two weeks to get in your vote Make
It Count so uh uh get uh get in there and get your uh vote for your favorite
10 and maybe some of them will be newly inducted into the football card Hall of Fame you know I talked last week about a
pseudo sponsor we have uh with magic mind it's a little Energy Shot uh mental
Clarity new Tropic thing not a big user or believer in those but this one's really got me reconsidering my stance I
take one every morning but before school uh and even on the weekends and it just
really it's a little pep seems to get me more focused more uh more kind of locked
in I don't know if it's my over matter I I I don't think so uh you know but uh
seems to be doing uh the trick really enjoying it if you want to try it yourself there is a promotional discount
code uh Link in the show notes uh so check that out along with your voting
for the football card Hall of Fame so uh with that being said we're going to take

welcome to sports card Nation I have three gentlemen uh joining me tonight for a show that's become now a tradition
it's now the third annual football card Hall of Fame about to get ready for the the third
annual uh class and then in order from top to bottom I guess I'll go we have
Ray from Philly uh Bart's cards and Scott from Scotty tradition and and
again this is the third year uh we' we've done this number one let's start off with you know kudos to you guys for
for keeping this thing going and it's I I know each year you're getting more
interaction and voting uh from hob and probably sports fans uh alike and here
you are in your in your third year it's getting bigger uh each year and uh uh
we're going to go through uh you got 45 cards on the candidate list 10 are going
to be make it in uh this year and 35 will be on the outside looking in we're
going to go through every one of them um I will kind of just introduce the cards and let you guys kind of interject you
know your thoughts and and uh you know whether the card is a first time appearance you know second third
whatever the case uh may be your personal thoughts and and opinions which are are obviously uh valid and I'll kind
of throw in a few thoughts and and we'll go through the list of these 45 cards
guys but any kind of opening uh comments before we get uh into this list um well
the uh the there was a a rule change it's not 10 cards getting in this year
it's five oh all right still get to let me ask just get
five in okay so you vote for 10 in the top five vote Getters uh uh get in I
kind of like that it GNA be tough now now I might have to politic for two cards that are on the top of my head but
uh I'll you know gu I I'll I'll ask the question now I know we're going to talk a little bit more even after we get
through the the list here uh the reason I mean the main reason why you guys decided to to do that uh I'll take that
one um football just doesn't have the depth that you see in baseball so um we
would start watering down the the classes pretty quickly um earlier on
than they should get in type of thing uh you know we only have one pre-war Set uh we don't have the multiple issues once
post-war happens and we don't have the big iconic food issues and things like
that we've got some nuanced ones here and there but they just don't have the um the the carrying power that baseball
does so there's just not a volume there so uh 10 each in the first two years made sense just because you got to send
that you know get those foundational classes in there um and then it's just all right now let's let's have them duke
it out yeah I like that I I I think that makes a lot of sense and and it's valid
and uh um you know I think you appreciate it more too when you you got
I think I hope people take their vote uh serious and and and who they and I'm sure they do for the most part I mean I
like I said I have two Homer picks that will show up here I hope they're they make the five uh but uh I you know I
thought I I thought they had a better shot when it was 10 now it's GNA be even it's gonna be even tougher but
uh yeah uh we'll go through these not every card will will appear on the screen for those watching this in the
video format um if you're listening in the audio format it's you won't notice
uh any difference but we're going to talk about uh kind of each card I kind of we'll we'll bracket cards that are
from the same set uh we kind of can talk about them uh as a group just for for
time purposes so let's start with the oldest of card uh oldest candidate card
appearing on this year's uh list which is the 1888 n 162 uh Harry Beacher uh
just some thoughts kicking it off with the the oldest card here on on the candidate this was a card that we did
not have on our first ballot first time around we added it on our second ballot um we just felt like it was an important
card to highlight uh pretty much the first football card even though he's holding a what looks to be a round ball
you know the football looks Lo a little different back in the day um college football was a huge deal earlier on than
pro football was um we just thought that it was a necessary card uh to be on this and I think it came pretty close last
year um to getting in the top 10 if if I recall it was the F highest card yeah
right outside of the top 10 it was like 11 yeah absolutely and uh part of the this whole process is you know uh to
generate the interest but you know educate a little bit right shouldn't Miss opportunities for that when we're
we're discussing in the Hobby and doing activities and things like that so um you know we had one pre-war set with
1935 and this sucker is 47 years prior to that so um kind of a big piece uh to
you know educate folks on that the history of the game itself as well as the The Hobby and how it came about
being obviously one of the the you know early cards I mean you're you're talking
you know before the turn of the century you think that that that plays a factor in whether this might be uh an inductee
or not or does it hurt it because maybe people of today's generation aren't as
familiar with the card that's now you know 100 and and 37 years old I think
both I think it it's evolved right so that first ballot and Scot was the the
big promoter for this one and uh properly so um I think it just needed to
get that education out there and so it didn't get a lot of as much love as it could have but 1888 still speaks volumes
right like it still getches people's attention um but that first year probably didn't get as much as it it
could have the first year it was on about last year um but now you know at
we've pushed it out there and hopefully it's trudged up you know some some thoughts about the Hobby and how how old
and the Vintage itself you know this year it probably should see a nice bump I would think just based on on that and
that exposure yeah I think it has a great chance to get in this year um and I think that it was the first one out
last year and if you look at the results so far in general they've been a little more vintage skewed um for whatever
reason um so I do think's a pretty big vintage community that votes so I mean
that the Tom Brady cards are you know very expensive very popular in the hobby but they're still sitting there not in
the Hall of Fame so I think uh it's a vintage skew to our vote anyways yeah and and and I kind of agree with that I
like that right you want to you know we wouldn't have Tom Brady cards if it wasn't for these guys that uh you know
are the are the bridge to the football uh that we have today even though it's a a really a completely different game
it's it's the the forefather right it's like it's like presidents um you know we
we you have to have those Originals to have the the the modern days and and the currents I think cards uh much like life
sort of uh reflect that uh as well so it be interesting to see where it finishes
um for those listening uh I will have the link to vote in the episode notes so
if you're wondering I I'll also talk about that uh you know at the back end uh as well but uh in case you don't miss
if you miss it uh Audy it's there visually if you click on it it'll take
you right there and so uh get out uh inv vote second card uh going in
chronological order guys uh the 1935 national chickle uh Clark heo would you
guys kind of interject your thoughts here yeah well this is one of my guys if you will he's a former Packer so uh
played both ways back in the day offense and defense he was a bronco ners main Nemesis during the time that they played
and you know 35 chickles is just one of those Premier vintage sets of football that you know everybody could have at
least one shle card in my opinion and Clark Hinkle's kind of that you know one of those next big players in that set um
now that Bronco nersi is already in um so that was our thought process there yeah he's one that kind of gets
forgotten about and but if you look him up and everything he absolutely deserves to be in a lot of conversations about uh
top players and then 35 National chicks just a uh the foundational set for us so
uh as we got uh nersi out of the way and and rockney he's kind of the next on the
list for competing yeah probably not going to make a top five because it's getting lean now but uh I would expect
to see him somewhere in the 10 to 15 range I would think all right guys uh I'm gonna we'll go just for for time
we'll go with the the next three here this is the 1948 uh Lea set I know there's you know
you can debate 48 49 but uh right now officially 1948 uh Leaf you got the Sid Luckman uh
Bobby Lane and Chuck bedar uh all three uh frankly uh worthy uh as players and
and as cards I'm a fan of 48 Lea baseball and football uh alike so you
know I don't think these are there's not a bad vote uh with the three that uh if you're watching our video that you you
see on the screen I I I'll I'll let you guys talk but I'll ask a question too
does having multiple cards uh from a set sort of it's like sometimes a third-
Party candidate kind of hurts the other two mainstream do you think that works like that here in in the Hall of Fame
football card uh process as well or or not necessarily I think it will in this
case um you know hopefully not too much uh I definitely think one of these should make it in because we you know we
kind of got a keep you know having opportunities for other cards so certain cards got to get in in certain years I
think two out of the three ought to be in there but um you know I they probably will split votes it's going to you know
pull on the heartstrings a little bit of of your your fan base right like uh Ray is going to be biased in concrete Char
it's gonna be in there all day uh but you know you could have a midwesterner you know from Lion fan or something put
in Bobby Lane whomever so uh we'll see how this one goes i' definitely like to to see at least one of these get in in
the top five here yeah I I pretty much agree with what uh Bart said um if I had to guess I think concrete Charlie might
have the best chance of of reaching that top five it's a pretty popular card in the hobby even though it's they don't
tend to come up a lot and they're pretty pricey uh and remember the 48 Leaf uh
Sammy ball I want to say got in last year uh so that's no longer on the list there's just so many great cards from
this set yeah I I love this set I will say this without saying who I voted I
did vote for one of the uh three cards so I don't want to I don't want to politic or lobby but I'll
just say my votes in and in one of these three and I will say this I wanted to
vote for two of the three but what I kept changing and unchecking one and so
I I voted for one so that's one of the reasons I asked uh that question too
Bart was you know because I I I didn't want to like vote for too many even though it's an iconic and great set I
sort of felt like I can't vote for all three I tried to get two of them then I had to like uncheck someone else and
then I'm like no I cannot vote for that that was before I even realized it was only five that was when I thought 10
were part part of the challenge of that ballot you know we try to front load at least let everybody know it's there's 45
cards there and with your 10 votes you know you can start clicking boxes pretty fast especially chronic chronological
order there and then all of a sudden you realize you know you can be in the 70s 80s and be like man I haven't even seen half the
cards that happened last year um so yeah that'll challenge the voters and and we
love every bit of that yeah and full you know full transparency I had a few more
Modern Day cards if you will checked and then I had to play with the formula and
a couple of those Modern Day cards I had voted and then I had to uncheck so though at least in my book they have to
wait another year they might get in because enough other people voted for but uh I you know I'm a vintage guy too
and a history guy so I didn't want to like inspire you know you you look at it
this way the newer cards will have more opportunities potentially say so and we'll get into some of the parameters of
of how cards stay on the list or or don't uh you know once we get through here uh all right let's go with the the
next two guys I don't I didn't I didn't put up a a picture but you got the 1950
uh both Bowman you got Elroy Crazy Legs hirs and ya tile again two great cards
no one would argue you know either one of them to not get in um but your
thoughts on on those two ahe I think they're great cards uh I do Walker's in
that mix too from 1950 Bowman fresh on the ballot uh so we got three of those um you know a well-known Set uh it
mirrors its baseball so it's even you know just like 48 Leaf it's uh it's very well known because it's recognizable
across across the board um I don't necessarily see any of those getting in this year uh I definitely think that
they will have solid performances and and stay on the ballot they won't be the bottom five and get booted off by any
means but um you know that's probably you know good candidates for splitting
votes you know 1950 Bowman will get some love but who to who to give it to out of those three I just don't see one of them
carrying strong enough to make top five yeah obviously it's a an awesome set it's actually my favorite vintage
football set um because it just shows the portrait of the player and no name no nothing it's just uh it's almost like
little works of art um the autog gram already made it in so that's not on the list anymore but I think the next one
that has the best shot would probably be the title that's just me but um I don't know that he has a chance to make it in
this year with just five um but maybe in the next couple years I could easily see that title sneaking in it's a pretty
popular card in the hobby yeah my bad thank you for correcting me dok Walker's on here but for some reason I put him
down someone between them so uh yeah three three from 1950 Bowman uh and
obviously do Walker a viable candidate uh as well that was just uh not writing
stuff down in exact order that's what happen uh when you get old like myself so I I'll I'll CH it up to uh senility
but uh uh there you go three from that set um we go to 1951 Bowman and uh
actually no we go to 19 we stay in 1950 yep with the Joe Paterno TOS felt
uh really kind of cool uh cool uh Set uh from back in the day and not too many
people don't know uh Joe patno didn't really have uh much of an NFL career and
and known more as as obviously a coach uh then a player um but you know I I
know it didn't end great there and and all that stuff but still still an icon
of of football um and uh you know obviously se's representing their uh
Brown University as a quarterback and and co- Captain uh your thoughts on on the Joe P felt yeah these cards are kind
of cool they're just uh they're very small uh so they kind of we in odd shape they're only like a two inches long I
think I want to say um um so they didn't really hold that well uh the felt backs are just kind of one of those unique
sets that maybe I know a lot of people know Joe pno but I don't know that a lot of people know about the 50 feltback Set
uh so this is like another one of those good educational opportunities um that we wanted to bring to the Hobby and
putting this card in there um and it's it's a pretty sought-after card too I think this card's in the top 250 PSA set
registry so um definitely a some people think it's a pretty big card in yeah and this whole set is you know can be
considered a rarity uh so you have definitely opportunity for Education there um but but if you know about this
set and or you know about Joe patno you know this card and and this is the one that definitely sought after Leaps and
Bounds beyond the others in a set yeah and I could tell you as a dealer who does a lot of shows we go to the
National you don't see many uh from the set period let alone uh paternal
specifically so like you guys said you know definitely a scarce uh a scarce uh
I call it a card right a felt but uh you don't see these these aren't very prevalent uh is that good or bad when it
comes to to voting or you think it that really doesn't factor I think that would be tied to the knowledge base of the
voter to be honest with you the the non-w well-known ones uh won't get much
love from um you know I don't want to say novice voter but you're not you know
deeply inculcated into the football hobby uh collectors there um but your
your your purists and the ones that have been uh doing all the things the shows and all those things for years and years
specifically to football um they'll recognize it in that scarce that scarcity um probably trudges up a vote
much quicker yeah no doubt all right guys 19 uh 1951 Bowman has two
candidates this year we got Norm van BL brocklin and a guy uh there you go I
won't keep it on the screen because it's bigger than the other ones but uh Thomas Landry uh AKA Tom Landry of cowboy hat
Fame as the legendary uh Cowboys coach um you know I'm I'm I don't know I'll
start off by saying this I know he's been on the ballot before if if if you
know off I'll put you a little bit on the spot if you know off the top of your head how he's fared in past years I'm a
little surprised this card you know whether I'm not a Cowboys fan I know Ray's definitely I not actually none of
us are but but I mean he's an icon of football and whether we like it or not
there are a lot of Dallas Cowboy fans I'm kind of surprised this card hasn't got in now obviously he's representing
the Giants uh during his playing days but known more as as again that cowboy
he finished in the top 20 last year he finished uh 19th okay so you think they
moves up again only the top five are getting in but you think he moves up from 19 out of these 45 cars think so
yeah absolutely I mean because you know the first 10 got in right so he's n best vote getter that wasn't in um yeah still
got him breaking into the top five now um but yeah he has he's had some strong performances so he he's getting close
for sure um big fan of 501 Bowman as well um also mention the the the van
brockland along with that do walker uh in these older sets the you know
collecting and the way of collecting at the time trudged up a lot of popularity so you have the the do Walker and The
nor van brockland both number one cards in the sets uh so for those set collectors which is you know all you had
because there was only one thing to to get after um you know that made a a big difference in uh what was s after
condition wise Etc right bouncing around in shoe boxes number one card uh took some damages uh pretty cool that they
were popular players at the time but that kind of added to the problem set yeah a lot of rubber band marks on those
uh number one cards uh as well and that's a great great point and that's
why they're they're even an Andy pfco who's not a great player on the baseball
side first tops card uh ever with the with the 52 that card's a in great in a
decent shape that's a four fig card and it's not for his playing uh prowers it's
the significance of being that number one uh uh card in the set all right guys
uh kind of going on 52 Bowman large uh Frank gford another uh iconic name of
football who stayed you know uh stayed in the Limelight being married to to
Kathy Lee and and being an analyst uh himself and uh so I had a long football
career uh in that uh in that facet uh kind of thoughts on on on the 52 large
gfer I just think the 50 of course 52 large and small were two options at the
time came in large and small large tends to be a little more sought-after um although there are some Smalls that
are a little more scarce in the population and causes them to go for more um but yeah just a great card gford
was a great player in the day love the color on these early Bowman cards it's a great representative uh from that set I
think um it's funny you know you you had mentioned that Chuck benera card earlier
and you know there's that famous play where Ben is standing over Frank gford after he he made that hit and knocked
gford out for a year and a half after that hit um I just it's fitting that those two are
you know have a chance to possibly get in on the same ballot if Le not this year the next couple yeah 5 right yeah
go ahead popular tough to be centered um the color is awesome and then gford
always helps to play in the large media markets so a New York Giants guy big popular area at the time BR not as much
nowadays but uh moving on night only one 54
Bowman uh George Bland a guy I've always felt like very underrated uh as a player
think uh played a long time multi-positional uh doesn't get enough
credit not a not a household name in in the same sense as as certain other
Legends um so I always felt like I wasn't obviously a a Raiders fan or or
or anything like that but a guy that really you know probably doesn't get enough credit when you look at what he
did and and some of the records uh either still holds or held at one point or another uh kind of thoughts here you
kind of agree maybe being an underrated player could also hurt you know his card
ceny one thing I feel old because I saw Blanda
play saw open Raiders in the 7s I'm like oh my God he played a long time yeah
yeah yeah he played years um you know not a strong rookie class in 54 so that
that doesn't help um 54 Bowman is not the most colorful set I really like the
set but it's just doesn't carry the color at some of the other uh issues right before and after it so um it the
set itself doesn't get a ton of love but I think you know just bouncing around teams a little bit maybe too much um
didn't help him as well AFL wasn't quite as strong back then either so that doesn't help so a little bit of this and
that kind of deluding his popularity but definitely somebody that uh needs to be a part of the football story and and a
football hobby story oh go ahead go ahead Scott I was say Blanda is new to the list this year so I
don't know if it's someone we're expecting to be in the top five necessarily but it's someone that we wanted to put out there as you know
potential good point quick funny story I'll I'll make this short I had a a
debate with a guy I was set up near another dealer and I don't even know how it came up um but we we started talking
about Bland and I went on my like he's underrated and he took the opposite
stance and he's like John he's overrated he played he compiled a lot of stance
over a lot of years and I'm like you're making my point for me like it's hard to
play NFL football for that long like it's a different sport than than baseball where you can kind of hang
around or be a DH right you get you know so I'm like don't hold you know maybe in
baseball I can say someone compiled stats and kind of just played five or
seven more years you know just being DH and that that argument really doesn't work uh too much in football so just a
funny debate I I remember having uh a year or so back uh with a dealer friend
of mine and who thought we took opposite uh arguments you know I said underrated
he said overrated but uh I I still believe he's he's he's underrated all
right guys uh another slide I'll put up on Oh wrong one uh we're g to we're going to get to that one uh I think it's
this one yep uh 1955 uh tops all Americans we see the
Don Hudson uh and The Four Horsemen uh Four Horsemen card uh an iconic card
well they're they're every card on this list is Iconic in in its own way but the
four horsemen itself uh that backfield is just you know the stuff of of Legends
and we see the old footage and the narration um you know this card I
thought you know I thought it had been gotten in already uh so a little a
little bit surprised to see it here I I don't know Ray if you can speak to where if it's how it's fared in in well there
was a 55 tops allamerican Jim Thorp that got in last year but this Don Hudson
finished 13th last year so he was he was uh yeah he was right outside the top 10
last year it's a popular set this 55 top oh yeah this is one of my and these go
for some obviously the stars are going to like any set are going to bring more money but I'm surpris I pick up some of
these in like collection buys and I'm surprised that sometimes what for what
little they go for I love them and I I'm not trying to Dy you know if I I want to
still buy them at pretty affordable prices but it does surprise me sometimes
what these things will will go for but uh I I the set as as a whole and uh you
know it is popular I sell uh quite a bit uh of the 55 top Solomons but uh Scott
Bart if you wna you know some thoughts here yeah I mean I'll I'll take the Hudson you know uh amongst Packer
collectors it's definitely a sought-after card and obviously you got the Alabama background too which is not necessarily a small community of fans um
college logos on the cards and the colors you know make these super popular um it definitely definitely is a you
know the the top heavy cards in this set do go for quite a bit of money you know the Thorp and the Hudson and then this
all four horseman card um I could easily see one of these cards getting into the
top five this year um for sure in the top five this year or next year yeah I think the Hudson should be in this uh
this go round I definitely think it's deserving those the top five full Horseman is represented real well on the
ballots as well um and you know kind of said it before in a couple other cards but uh early football um not in the same
way as baseball for sure very distinct to us the college football mattered
significantly to all the things if they didn't have a name coming into the NFL it was much harder to do but if they had
a name coming in they didn't have to do quite as much into the NFL to be very very popular um but you know four
Horseman's got tons of nostalgia and then Don Hudson obviously did it in college and very much so in in the pros
as well and uh you know was was that great receiver of his day and multiple
decades after until we got a couple of more in the modern passing so big time player big time card and like like you
said R finished 13th last year had it stayed at 10 he might be sort of a shoe
in right now it'll be it be right around the line now yeah it'll be interesting
to see uh you know I think I think he got a vote from Scott without knowing
100% we don't vote oh that's well you can listen I didn't V
either or else I'd be concrete Charlie yeah yeah I can't
say all right guys let's uh go to the uh next on on the list uh here uh 57 tops
uh two candidates from from that Set uh Paul Paul horning and uh dick Knight
Train uh Lane uh on this list uh you know I'll let I'll have at it with these
two cards yeah you know the The Golden Boy Paul horning um great card from the
57 set and then we got some uh a defensive stalwart in dick N Train Lane probably the best name other than you'll
see Mean Joe Green coming up down the line but um yeah just a great set you get the portrait on one side the action
shot on the other Bart Star I think made it in the first time around so and Unitus made it in as well I GNA say yeah
so you know the we're looking for that next card from 57 to make it in horning has a great chance um I think he held
the single season scoring record for many many years um until it was broken by leanian Tomlinson who you might see
later on this list as well so um either one of either one of these are great cards but um not sure I see any one of
them getting in this year but just something to think about 57 is a very popular set very easily recognizable and
iconic for us um hornung will will be a little higher on the list in results di nit Train Lane is uh you know a new on
the ballots and so we'll see what his popularity trudges up but but horong will will'll stay on the ballot and
we'll see how if he can continue to work his way up in some subsequent years and get in in a year or two probably but I
don't see it this year all right we skip ahead uh five years uh to the next uh
group of three from the uh 62 top Set uh to me all worthy I'll put them on the
screen here you got uh Iron Mike dicka you got Ernie Davis of Syracuse L lore
and unfortunately is NFL career never happened U unfortunately due to leukemia
uh if you have never seen the express it's a a great movie that uh does depict
much of it pretty accurately not 100% but uh for the most part and Fran
Tarkington one of the greatest you know scrambling quarterbacks one of the first ones um I'm not you know here's one of
my Homer picks that card in the middle uh Ernie Davis I own a few of these
These are as as you guys all know and most people who are vintage football card collect very conditioned uh
sensitive set um a lot of star power uh as well uh and uh you know so you know
Ernie Davis will get my vote uh every year he's on the ballot and hopefully uh
one day or one year he uh I don't have to vote for him anymore right because uh
this card uh is in there and um you know it's his it's his only uh he has a new
um uh what do they call them the new uh cards from 61 as a Syracuse player but
this is as the number one draft pick of the Browns and unfortunately uh passed
away during training camp so never never saw an official uh game but that would
have been one heck of a backfield uh Ernie Davis and Jim Brown uh in the same
backfield uh you know both Syracuse Legends and the for those that don't know the the well used be the Carrier
Dome here in Syracuse now the JMA Wireless Dome uh is also known if you're
inside you'll see the field is labeled uh Ernie Davis Legends Field so Homer
pick but uh definitely worthy uh and it's a card I love right that's why we vote uh it's it's what we feel uh in our
hearts should be in uh so there's my little Homer rant but I I'll I'll stop
talking and I'll let you guys uh not Homer rant Maybe on on these three uh
particular uh candidates yeah like you said uh we skipped five years ahead there we had a couple of ugly years
worth of cards um to be honest and not a lot of star power outside of the ones that were already established but not
rookie star power coming along um stars that we did have uh but 62 came
along and changed it up went vert went horizontal on it with the black borders and stuff uh so a couple of stars here
uh I would say the dika is the strongest of the three as far as far as candidacy and likelihood um but uh we'll see I'm
all probably tick up a little bit on the list yeah this is one of my favorite sets too guys and I and it's not because
of the Ernie day I mean that doesn't hurt um I just love the look of these the the horizontal cards uh the black
borders and then you got the inset uh black and white photos with the nice little uh name box I've always I
remembered even as a young kid kind of seeing these for the first time and
really you know digging the design and and then you know getting a little bit
older a little more money starting to to pick these up and and buy some of these
and uh to this day you know uh anytime I can pick up uh an Ernie Davis even when
I any night I go on eBay it goes in my Search terms and I just I see what if
there's any that they are going for for too cheap that I can't let let go so yeah I own a few of those uh like I said
there's the the Homer and me but uh uh all three obviously uh worthy but with
only five getting in I think it's a super safe bet these these are all going to get in and maybe none they have to
see where the the the chips fall uh here all right guys moving on to uh uh
63 uh we have the 63 tops uh Bob Lil and Ray nitki we have the 63 Fleer Lance
Alworth and lend and we'll kind of group those four I know they're two different
sets but uh those four cards I don't have a a graphic here but uh kind of
thoughts on on those two sets and four four candidate yeah um I can take the 63
tops uh the nitki and the Bob Lily um I think what you're seeing on this year's ballot is definitely a focus on some
defensive players um there's quite a bit of them so if you're a fan of defense like I am you can see some of these
players and make sure you vote for them if you like them um 63 is kind of a cool set because it's almost like the first
color match they're vintage color match cards so like the nich's got some yellow and green in it um then the Lily's got
some like cowboy type colors in it so um I just think they're very cool cards
very condition sensitive centering is a big deal for these um and you know nitki was the heart and soul the Packers
defense in the 60s and Bob Lily's was literally the name Mr Cowboy so you got
two pretty great candidates right there to get in the next couple if not this time around the next couple years yeah
only got to color match some of the teams right Niners got stuck with blue and yellow back around borders stff so
we didn't get no love on that one 63 Fleer uh you got the Len Dawson and the allworth um two great cards Fleer of the
day was was the AFL issue um so not necessarily as popular but those are two
big icons there um do expect them they should do well uh Dawson will do a
little bit better allworth we had to reintroduce to the ballot this year it was one of the bottom feeders of the first year and got taken off but as we
were finding cards to put onto the ballot we were having a hard time not uh you know Finding cards that needed to to
be on the list above that all worth so after he's sitting out for a year we reintroduced it hi guys uh going now you
know speaking of gaps we go from 63 all the way to now we're hting the
70s again this is going to be a homer slide for me I put two on this slide you
got 197 uh tops OJ Simpson and the 71 uh tops
Mean Joe Green uh this is you know that bottom card that mean Joe uh those that
know me know I'm a huge Steeler fan um and mean Joe Green's my guy like that
that's the reason I'm a Steeler fan that co- commercial that kid in the co- commercial is the same age as me then
and he's still alive so he's the same age as me now and if you saw a picture of me during that year I looked we
looked very similar so I saw myself uh in that kid I grew up in New York City
it did not like the Giants and jets and so I went and joined the the the
Pittsburgh Steelers fan club took a lot of abuse from my New York City friends
that said how can you be a Steeler fan you can't even go to games and and I'm
like I don't like the Jets are giants so and me Joe Green uh is my new favorite
player so uh the rest is history uh that's another card you know I mentioned Ernie Davis me and Joe Green's another
card I just I I have multiple copies and I still look for more uh if a deals uh
uh to be had so I will tell you I voted for one of these two cards and I didn't
vote for the other one but you know you know we we all know the OJ Simpson and
all the backstory there uh recently passed away well we can't argue about OJ
Simpson the football player right uh the greatness uh that he was and uh and even
post football uh know did TV work and movies um and and Analysis and and so
you know you're voting on the card you know it's like I talk about with with taob wasn't the nicest guy uh in the
world but he was a great player right uh OJ Simpson was a great football player and this uh is his rookie card so um
I'll let you guys speak to these two cards but uh you know even Bart specifically with with OJ I know he
played eventually with with the Niners like you know what are your you know how
much of what happened you know the last chapter if you will uh in his life you
know affects maybe card voting here or or maybe not so much yeah I for this one
um well like you said we skipped seven years but that's only because we got some really good ones already in
with the name of the bucket and the sers so we didn't skip bad years of of cardboard per se but some good folks got
in um you can't tell the story of the 70s without these two guys uh OJ's the
the best card in that 1970 set and and mean Joe's probably arguably the number two card and Brad Shaw's already in I
think um so see that's a travesty the Bradshaw from Ste yeah I
know I me Joe green like the Steelers he he changed the the whole trajectory of
that franchise and uh I'm again I'm I'm he's my dude so I'm gonna I'm gonna be a
fanboy here uh vote me Joe vote for they were known as the Steel Curtain for a
reason and he was he was that yeah um you know I I think the the OJ and and
whatever player you know has things that happen and and get notoriety for after
their careers uh that's always going to be in the eye of the beholder uh I knew enough about the player and
his background and history and all of those things before a lot of those things well obviously the one was pretty
early but um before he you know the continuance of some of those things in his afterlife I guess um so it doesn't
sway me as much to to my popularity of the football player uh but I'm sure that's not the case for a lot of folks
so we'll see you get the opportunity to vote or not vote for those and we like to see how that story plays out that's
part of the fun of this process Scott Ray anything that or no I mean OJ did move up a little bit he's at he was a
24th last year so yeah um I think eventually that card's going to get in I
mean it's about the card it's about the player so you can't tell the story of the 70s without those two guys guys
absolutely not I mean one of the greatest running backs of all time you know we were like me and Scott were
talking about like how Barkley this year got 2,000 yards but OJ did it in 14 games man I mean that's that's just
unbelievable you know and much more tougher game too back then and he hurt I
mean you should have seen him hurling suitcases at the airport with the hers
commercials someone's at my door I've got to get that be right back for nearly 50 years Sports

returned all right guys I don't have a slide uh but the next card again going
in chronological order another underrated player uh the 1977 tops uh
Steve lar um and uh you know you don't have to be a Seahawks fan you know to
know how how great Steve Lar um wasn't necessarily the fastest guy on
the field he just seemed like he was always opening always open and catching you know seven to nine passes a day a
game and sometimes more and uh you know I don't think again like I mentioned
Blanda before and other guys he's one of those guys you know who doesn't get
enough credit like he was the guy uh at least in the era and then Jerry Rice kind of came along I think people forgot
about out large it because rice was so great uh but uh you look at the the
stats and the numbers and and he's really should get a lot more credit uh than he does so I'll let you guys kind
of uh chime in here yeah you know larent is uh definitely deserving to be on this
list um for the accolades he put up as a receiver I am curious uh just because he
did play up in you know Seattle Washington kind of a niche place he was a niche player up there I mean obviously
very extremely good but I wonder how that will affect the voting uh like you know people that grew up on the east
coast and that kind of thing um I'm just interested to see how that will be this time around but this is his first time
on the ballot this year yeah fresh on the ballot from a small market area on a expansion team in the 70s so uh didn't
get a lot of love for for how well he did uh so we'll see how it goes hopefully he stays on the ballot he's
worthy of of remaining on the ballot and working his way up for sure yeah that's I didn't realize it was his first year
so it will be interesting to see it's a great Point uh to Scott that you know playing in on the west coast I'm an East
Coast guy and I knew but I don't you know I think there are probably some people don't know as much about him uh
because of that factor so it'll be interesting to see what if the voting uh sort of reflects that you know I think
as a player he's a no doubter but as as a card and and you know playing on the
West Coast uh all his career right uh it'll be interesting to see uh you know how that
affects where where that car card falls in the voting uh going ahead one year to
78 tops uh another Cowboys uh legend Tony Dorset uh obviously running back
and uh you know even though I was a Steelers guy I I kind of like Tony my
dad my father don't ask me how he's a New York City guy too I think it was Roger staruk my dad was a Cowboys fan
and so you know the the if the Cowboys game was on my dad would be watching it
so I which they were on a lot unfortunately so sorry Cowboy s so I got
to see Tony Dorset play and he's probably one of my favorite non stealer
guys don't ask me why um I I just kind of like Tony Dorset um is this his first
time on the ballot or I I thought it was so and I'm curious to see you know
Cowboy Legend how much of that uh plays into where where where this card uh
winds up but I'll stop talking and let you guys here uh you know give your thoughts yeah Cowboy Legend but you know
his Fanfare across the hobby isn't what you would think it would be um you know
he came on the back end of uh of all those you know the 70s teams for the Cowboys uh and then finished up his
career with the Broncos you know still put some numbers up but not a whole lot going on there you know well known for
the 99 yard touchdown run and uh and his accolades had pit even before then but
um just not a strong year for the cards itself in 78 and just he doesn't get the
popularity you would think um especially if you know if you got a starback on your team and some other stars you know
he's he's splitting votes there right yeah I think you know and I think that Thor that they have a a really good
college career so that kind of helps out with l proove cards um it'll be
interesting to see I think if there's any kind of like 70s bias from like collectors there tends to be a lot of
collectors in general I feel like that grew up in the 70s for cards so I want I'm kind of wondering if that has any
effect at all on his popularity whereas I might not vote for this card um to be
in the top five I'm kind of curious to see how well he does yeah and that brings up a good point uh for me and Scott as we work to to build the ballots
and stuff like that we are aware that we have some biases and we're aware we have blind spots and we try to push each
other's buttons to figure out what those are what might we be overlooking um and so that's kind of you know some of these
70s cards was an opportunity to like maybe you know our eye isn't drawn to these as fast but we may be missing
something so we take the opportunity with the ballot to insert a couple of those to to make sure that the you know
the other sides of the fan bases with you know positive biases towards these things get their opportunity to vote for
them yeah and I mean I think that shows uh Bart that you guys care about the
process and the Integrity of the process right and uh you know if I did it
probably be 45 Steeler cards on the list I kid I don't think I could at this point I don't think I could come Franco
Harris Rocky liar you'd have a hin ward somehow sneaking
in probably shouldn't in all honesty comparison to some of the icon of cards
uh on this list all right guys the next uh well I kind of grouped the the next three cards uh together we have SE uh
one from 79 tops and two uh from 82 tops let me get the uh uh graphic up here uh
you see the 79 tops uh Earl Campbell very familiar with him uh being a
Steeler fan and he used to uh kill us and uh we were reason for some of the
Els uh that we did take back in the day and the 82 top set which uh again two
iconic cards here in in Ronnie lot and LT and uh you don't have to be a Giants
fan uh to realize you know the greatness of of all three of these guys so I was
gonna say Lawrence Taylor Lawrence Taylor kind of changed the linebacking position again when he came along as
many others uh did when they came along but kind of brought it into the sort of modern day similar to what we know now
uh Ronnie lot the dude's getting his finger cut off and staying in the game
and uh Earl Campbell is another one of those running backs that I don't think um you know fought through some injuries
but also his his career cut shot do do do injuries so I don't think he gets
enough uh credit and uh all three of these cards are iconic and again they
don't have you know this isn't uh I'll let you guys speak to this this isn't
about the the necessarily monetary value right I'm sure that's a factor I'm sure
it's a factor and how some people might be voting but again you're voting on the card and the player uh depicted on the
card so you can you know you can pick up these cards fairly reasonably even in in
decent grade shape but that's not what the voting should be at least in my mind that's not what the voting uh should be
about these these three cards um anytime you know if I buy a collection and I'm
I'm going through it and I see these cards you know I get kind of excited I might not be fans of these teams but
these are just Legends of the game and and iconic cards in in their own right value B value thrown out right and uh so
I'll I'll I'll shut up and let you guys kind of uh weigh in here on these three
candidate yeah I agree with everything you just said there um you know they're all easily attainable and any good
football collector probably has all three of these in the in the collection for sure um or working towards it uh
Earl Campbell first year on the ballot here so another one of those 70s cards we put into the mix um to make sure that
they got some love um the 82s big fan of those myself obviously I'm a Niners guy
so Ronnie lot and I love the color pop on that card uh I think Lawrence Taylor
um should get more votes than the than the Ronnie lot uh they'll probably be close because uh you know depending on
what you're looking for on your defense uh you're you're picking one of them um but I think what from what they mean to
the game you know Lawrence Taylor should should be doing well not the greatest pose on a card per se
um but great cards and and great players so uh if if he's not in he's he's should
be getting pretty close in the next Ballot or two yeah Ray Ray do we have uh any idea how LT finished in his y LT
last year finished uh in 22nd Place maybe not this year then but he's
getting there maybe not this year but I think it's a really important card in the hobby I mean you could argue he's the best defensive player to play the
game so you know to me that would seem a a pretty important card to have his rookie card um that 82 top set um is
just a great set too I mean you got in addition to these two you got the Anthony Munoz one of the best offensive
linemen of all time also coming out of the set so um and with lot and Taylor here you see another couple of two great
defensive players that were off that are able to be voted for so yeah it should be interesting to see what happens with
these guys yep all right guys so going on uh think I have a slide for this let
me see if this is no wrong one uh right here I kind of put these guys uh
together the 84 uh year candidates you got the tops uh John Elway and then you have the usfl
uh Reggie White uh I I you know uh transparency I think I I know I voted
for one of these cards I know I voted I voted for Reggie White I think this is just a a great card you know prior to
his entrance into the NFL and again I'm not saying this because you know Scott's
on the screen this is another guy that that changed how we looked at defense and and you know got a very Hefty
contract out of his uh abilities to to then uh take his talents to Philadelphia
uh Elway I'm I'm curious Ray uh yep uh this is not the first time where it
where it finished I mean this guy Rings he finished very well last year he finished 14th yeah he's going to be
right in there this year if he doesn't make it he's going to be the cut line itself um we knew that him and Marino
would be were competing hard and Marino got in so uh laway should be real close
uh I agree with you on the Minister of Defense he doesn't quite get the Love on this card that he should uh on the
bootes uh but uh you know me and Scott are both defensive guys so I love this
card player and uh you know it should be deserving very quickly for sure yeah
yeah what a great that you know we talked about Marino obviously making it in previously and now the lway is left
we talked about that but that Reggie White card is just a a unique card it's got the red white and blue usfl uh it's
got the Memphis showboats uh and a big logo there I just like everything about that card it's just a great portrait VI
so not only a good player but this is a really great card I think yeah yeah you don't see you don't see them uh they're
not prevalent I don't want to say they're they're scarce but again you're going to see more 84 tops than more 84
uh usfl uh everyone knows at 84 top set super condition s sensitive they come
out of the packs uh super off center if you find any 84 stars that are are
pretty centered and they're reasonably priced you better buy them because you don't see him often often enough I'm a
little surprised I know Marino is is very but Marino that card should be in
the the football card all of Fame I'm surprised I see I would have put the laway ahead of the Marino based on you
know championship rings right Lombardi trophy uh and that's not Marino's fault some of that he didn't have the cast uh
Supporting Cast that maybe Elway did but I think I I would eventually I would have want both of those cards in for
sure but I think based on the Super Bowls I would have probably voted Elway and I probably did vote way first in the
past um you know kind of thoughts there real quick Marino being in and laway still on the outside trying to to
scratch and Claw way in I just think for the majority of their careers it was it
was Marino as the guy um yeah Elway got the last say absolutely um not just
finishing his career but then kind of in his his post playing days as well so he he got to maintain a little bit more
presence other than isoton or gloves and so yeah he's working his way back up and
getting closer but uh in that t time frame it was the Gunslinger Marino with
the giant arm right yeah do we do we know how far apart they finished yeah kind of far um Elway was
14th and uh uh Reggie was uh 38th I mean I mean Marino and Elway oh sorry uh from
last time around yeah um El Marino got in on the first year uh 3 U
so yeah I'm looking at the uh all the players that have made it and uh
actually 22 was the first year Marino got in 23 was last year so this is right
yeah so he got in on the second ballot but I don't have the difference between Marino and Elway uh hold on a second
hold on a second you said laway was 14th 14th so then Marina was um like that
yeah so had to be the top 10 so he was uh Marina was eighth he got uh
39.1% and Elway was 14th and he got 3 3 uh 33 so 6% yeah one of those I'm pretty
sure I I V voted for for laway uh last year you didn't get in Marino did like
you said um I believe I voted for laway again uh you know I I don't have I I
know like I said two or three or four that I voted for sure I don't want uh I
know I talked to you guys before we we hit record I don't wantan to I'm not gonna give everyone I don't want it to
be like hey here's the 10 I voted for you should vote for those I will say this though vote for me Joe Green and
Ernie Davis that's as far I will go that far but all right enough of that the
next uh the next card on this list I'm not going to put it on the screen the gentleman depicted on this card never
scored a touchdown in the NFL never made a tackle in the NFL but if you were a
kid you really like this guy because Christmas morning uh you ran downstairs
or or if you didn't have stairs you can went out to the tree and open your presents brought by uh this next
gentleman so maybe on that alone you could vote for but it's the uh uh it's
an iconic card I I remember 89 Pro Set the Santa Claus card people just ripping
that product uh trying to get that card I was a a a very young show dealer did
my first show at 15 in 1989 I was 17 and that was a card the minute I put out uh
in on my table it didn't last very long this was a card that just you know it's Santa Claus I mean what else do you got
to say right so um again I kind of card I'm not saying I voted did or didn't
vote for but whether it gets in or not like people who collected either then or
even now we still see Santa Claus cards made today in products this was one of the the forbearers and first one uh to
you know with Pro said doing it um thoughts here on on Santa bad 40 time
I'll be it yeah obviously a first entry into the ballot one of those additional
opportunities to educate on some of the the Brits that there is out there to collect within the football hobby um and
something that's the first one that that came out but uh gained a lot of popularity in itself and then in
subsequent years and so now you see him um not just in football sets but hockey
sets have issued Santa CL cards and baseball tops opening day and things like that so um to me this is kind of
the one that that started that uh Cog cogg of Santa opportunity to showcase
that similarly Niche to like the the Hologram Vince Lombardi that we had last year Lombardi trophy excuse me um did
make the cut and so we'll see where the love is for Santa this year um hopefully
there's still some some holiday spirit in their minds as they're casting votes uh but you know it is a very strong
ballot otherwise and so tough to have a vote remaining for for Santa but we'll see how it goes I like that it will it
rounded out our ballot pretty nicely I agree with what BART said on that one just kind of a fun addition to put in
that I'm not sure we expect is gonna make the top five but maybe it will maybe it'll surprise us yeah maybe Santa
himself will will politic and get the elves uh Jam in The Ballot Box and you
might have a an upset on uh on voting day so all right guys I put the next two
cards I don't have again I don't have a screenshot for this but uh two iconic
two sport players right uh you got the 89 score Dion Sanders and the 89 score
supplemental uh Bo Jackson those familiar uh both iconic the the the Dion
I'm a I'm a sucker for bigf face rookie cards that checks all those boxes and
the bow has them with a bat and and shoulder pads on uh just a unique card
and a very popular one uh for that reason and these guys you know both still a legend uh today and Dion is is
making a name for himself in the in the coaching ranks now at at Colorado maybe soon to be uh in the NFL at at some
point and uh both charismatic guys in in different ways but uh you know uh again
this is a tough field but these are these are definitely both worthy cards I'll let you I'll let your weigh in yeah
um I just think that 89 score set is just an amazing set in general it's like the just has a lot of star power being a
semi modern set um and we went with the Deion Sanders and the Bo Jackson in this
case um they're both yeah like you mentioned Dion relevant today even in coaching ranks and still popular um and
then you got Bo Jackson who is Bart's pick um uh we kind of when we're making
these lists we kind of each have a big pool we pick from and then we kind of match up what we have who we want to put
on the ballot then there's usually a few at the end that we're like okay which one should we put on and you know the Bo Jackson still obviously hobby relevant
today you know he just has such a following even still so um be
interesting to see on these two cards I'm not sure if they'll make the top five but definitely intriguing yeah yeah
like like Scott said the 89 score is a big one for us uh that year is BAS bit of a flasho point in the in the football
hobby um where that was first year we we started to get multiple mainstream sets
um and they started to try different things with you know how they presented the cards and stuff and it it grew very
exponentially over the the next two three years there um 89 score Barry
already got in last year and so uh what's that next card from 89 score we kind of waffled whether uh uh we thought
it might be Troy or Dion but Dion's definitely uh taken the popularity uh a
little bit higher lately and so that was the nod there and then again pushing
some education we know that on the baseball side the 90 score Bo Jackson uh wearing the same things you know
shoulder pads and and the bat behind his shoulders with the white border and everything but this one is a a purple
border out of the supplemental set and a vertical card rather than horizontal um many that any Bo Jackson collector knows
that card for sure but uh there's a chance that uh some of your multisport collectors don't know that one as well
so pretty cool opportunity to show that one off and uh you know we'll see how it does all right guys uh I'll kind of uh
we'll move along uh uh we'll kind of go through quick we're getting more modern day if you will nothing wrong with that
uh some definitely great candidates one of my favorite cards uh 90 score
supplemental Emma Smith uh Emma Smith for me uh still being a Steeler fan I
just like the way he sort of played and he didn't do a lot of trash talking uh you know at one point he was you know
the the record holder I think he still is uh you know it's it's it's hard to uh
he's just a a great player while I didn't root for Dallas I rooted for for EMT and again if you know anything about
90 scored in this card uh super conditioned sens in the black bordered
um this is a card another one as a dealer um you I try to pick these up uh
when I can they're popular card a lot of cowboys uh collectors uh you know much
like I do with meel green rookies a lot of cowboy collectors are looking for
multiple of these or adding uh to their collection so again this is a strong
field as as expected uh but this card is a strong candidate uh as well I probably
would venture guess it may not get in but uh I do enjoy uh this card yeah
great great modern card you know just uh suffers from a lot of good vintage cards
uh you know stealing from it but uh once the the ballot continues to trit down
some of the the key vintage uh you'll see this one uh get in for sure you just
the modern cards this is one of the the big boys there uh supplemental one of those neat sets where it comes in a box
um tops traded from baseball or something like that so a little bit different for the hobby um and so the
the cardboard side of this card is is is kind of neat as well yeah Ray do we know where EMT finished last time around yeah
uh let's see here EMT Smith year wasn't the top or top 20 hopefully like top
25ish uh 29 that's a little surprising to me um you know EMT was such a great running
back and you know he is part of a a pretty big fan base in the Dallas Cowboys so um I do think that card will
Garner steam eventually but I think interesting that the Barry Sanders got in so early and that card is so far down
the list all right guys next one uh 91 Stadium Club Brett faf uh we know
another guy sort of post career uh having you know some legal issues and
not so uh uh great uh you know news surrounding him but you can't argue what
he did I know Scott will attested that as a Packer fan I know Mark ganel would
not be voting uh for this card uh unfortunately but uh you know this was I
remember this card in in 91 again I'm 19 I'm a collector I'm a dealer you know
people were were killing uh each other to to to buy this card and um it's you
know he's a Hall of Famer he's a a Packers Hall of Famer he's an NFL Hall of Famer and this is his rookie card and
so regardless of all the stuff you know all the semantics with Brett are like
this uh this is an iconic card and that's why it made your guys list I'll let you guys uh speak to that so when
this card came out I would have been eight years old so when like just make me feel even
older I was 20 20 something yeah this is this is one
that I remember my first real kind of one that I wanted to be honest with you going into the card shop and it being
marked up bit when fire started to become popular in the state of Wisconsin and of course it has he has the name
spelled wrong on there and everything so that kind of had a little more Allure to it uh I don't know that his recent
issues have helped anything at all for his popularity I would say that it's definitely hurt um but Wisconsin you
know or Packer fans will still remember him pretty fondly but I don't know that it does him many favors on the ballot
yeah still still the first ballot Hall of Famer uh in reality there and then 91
Stadium Club deserves a you know tip of the cap too as a set that was kind of the yeah as you know I said as that that
flash point happened in 89 and you get new products and new things with 91 Stadium Club is kind of like your first
high-end product says premium right on the pack premium of 99 cents a pack you got to
pay like bucks that was a big deal I remember as a kid man that's expensive I'm I'm gonna go get four packs of Pro
Set instead all right guys or action packed
yeah yeah there's some sleepers in that Action Pack set I like the EMT rookie in
the action pack pretty cool St rest in peace um all right guys 96 uh listen I
I'm not a fan of this guy per se but I'm not here to argue uh the greatness of 96
Bowman best uh Ray Lewis uh you know I'm a Steeler fan but Ray Lewis was another
guy right after Lawrence Taylor he kind of was the next you know big linebacker
that move the the the football defensive side of of playing linebacker to even
the next level when we really thought maybe that wasn't going to happen uh uh
again and uh you know definitely a thorn in in the side of of the Steelers and
things they wanted to do um but you can't argue that whether whether I like them or not you can't argue the
greatness of Ray Lewis and and you know again they still weren't making a ton of
defensive player cards so Ray Lewis is going to have less cards than crazy as
it sounds Joe Flaco uh even though one is a legend and the other's a pretty
good quarterback but I wouldn't necessarily say a legend so I think you know you you know when you when you're a
fan of a of a defensive player you have less opportunities to pick uh cards up
because they just frankly less uh made and so this is a card um you know it's a
great shot of them and uh you know definitely worthy of of the list I'm assuming is
this the first year it's it's on the B yeah yeah yeah I I am a big fan of Ray
Lewis um I'm big middle linebacker guy as well and if you you ask me a characteristic of what I would want my
middle linebacker to have I'd be like well I want somebody that could is willing to stab a guy allegedly um
that's a good middle linebacker right there you know and so like you said he's only got
like five or six rookie cards so he's not in a whole lot of things and then Bowman's they played they did some word
play in previous years where we had inserts called Bowman's best out of Stadium Club and top things but uh uh
they got their own set that year um similar to baseball and uh and it was a highend set of its day as well so um
Bowman's best is a nice set and then a a big time linebacker came out of it exactly uh yeah Ray Lewis might have
been you know the premier defender of the 90s in early 2000s so he certainly
deserves a place on you thought is he probably the closest linebacker to
challenge lawen Taylor of all time right yeah I we don't I know there's buiss and
nitki but linebackers right yeah I think they even I don't know how you guys feel
I think too like it's hard to compare era so I always he's probably the closest guy to Taylor uh you know uh as
Taylor was kind of winding at that point he career was over but he was only recently retired so I always felt like
Ray Lewis was the the new version right of Lawrence Taylor as as he retired and
was out of the game Ray Lewis came along out of Miami uh and and was that guy
again and uh you know unfortunately he had to be in the same division as the
Steelers so I got to I got to watch him wreck havoc uh twice a year uh on my
favorite team and that's exactly probably the two words that come to mind he just used to wreck uh havoc and you
didn't have a lot of time uh to set up and throw you better get that ball out or and he'd hit you uh like you felt it
at home uh when he hit a quarterback or running back or you know you you you
felt that through your TV screen uh at home and that's you know that's just the
uh the greatness uh of of them all right uh 98 um you know SP authentic Randy
Moss another guy that uh you know as great as he is and I know he's battling some things now we I think I speak for
all of us and wishing them uh well and and and healing um another you know
great one of the alltime great wide receivers again had the you know playing after Jerry Rice it's difficult uh
because that's who you're going to be measured up to but on his own accord one of the greatest uh and and hands second
almost to none I mean some of the catches uh he made uh you know are are
great I know Scott also got to see him uh most of the time twice a year uh as
well and uh just a great player SP authentic obviously a limited sort of
you know in an era where the print runs were starting uh to ramp up even more um
this was a a limited print run where the cards were were numbered so this to me
you know you got one of the arguably one of the all-time greatest wide receivers on a limited card and it's his rookie
there's no doubt why this card's on on the list yeah agree um you know great
set limited uh print run there um don't expect him to do overly well this year
but you know he should be able to to to stay on the ballot and work his way up um got some quarterbacks in the modern
era that are going to compete with him to include that since you pulled it up there that 90 authentic man Manning of the same set I
would assume and venture to Guess that that one gets in first whenever it does happen as far as 98 SP Authentics but um
some Modern high-end you know stuff and uh and quarterbacks always get a little
bit more love too but uh can't tell the story of football without Randy Moss and we all love him if you watch it yeah now
I got the grabity got the that's the SP authentic set there we're talking about the Moss but there's the Manning also on
the ballot this year then you have the playoff contenders 2000 uh autograph Tom
Brady and then the 2000 SP authentic Tom Brady uh rookies and um again I kind of
I group these three together because that that's the or chronological order uh as well obviously all three of these
cards are are can be pricey uh the Brady's even more so um and that you
know that contenders Auto not a lot of people uh have one you know obviously
these are all iconic cards does you know speaking specifically guys here with the
with the contenders Auto being it's you know rarely uh a fairly rare card that
not a lot of people going to have in their collection does that does that hurt its cacy or actually maybe move it
up the list because it makes it even more because it's not easy to get it becomes more iconic almost like you know
the honest Wagner in baseball the t206 or the 52 tops Mano uh you know how do
you how do you view that I think it hurts to me it does uh and where it I
place it in my head for sure um just because you know the popularity of card is tied to the pursuit of a card and
what a card is just so far beyond uh a normal person's means I mean some of us
have pretty big collections but none of us are willing to cash the whole thing in to get one of these um or to you know just to or save
up for a couple of years of our hobby budget in order to do it you know um and so when I'm not even pursuing the card
it just takes away from its popularity in my eyes but um others might think differently but you know I compare it to
you know uh those those gouty babe roofs because you see them enough and you you know they're just on the cusp of like
the price point is crazy but it's still oh man if I did this you know could it kind of be close you know then then
there's a drive there where you get into 52 tops mantel and and stuff like that and some those other even worse you know
like the Sho was Joe's you're like it's so far beyond it I'm not even looking at it you know it doesn't have the luster
in the eye quite to me but that's just my thoughts and I think that you know you're just looking at three of the
cards of the Premier quarterbacks of the 2000s and 2010 so obviously they deserve a spot on the ballot um you the the
bradies are certainly pricey um I mentioned earlier about the a bit of a vintage slant to the ballot that we've
seen so far the last two years so um interesting to see if the Brady's able to make some Headway this year or 2000
playoff contenders Brady last year finished 12th so it's right there yeah I
I was just looking I was like wow he finished really high that one yeah and that that card took you know what we had
seen in prices to to other levels and so it you know it has a place in the hobby
um still needs some Aesthetics right he's in dark ink and a dark card you can barely see the the Autos that are on the
when you have yeah it's still Brady all right guys uh well we'll we'll kind of put the last two together I know they're
not the same year you got the 2001 uh tops Chrome leanian Tomlinson and the
2005 uh TOS Chrome uh Aaron roders you know LT another another one of my
favorite running backs I I guess I have a I guess I have a thing for running backs who are very good and don't do a
lot of trash talk and kind of score a touchdown and flip the ball to the ref and and you know go to the sideline and
wait you know wait till there it's time to go to work again LT kind of uh fit that bill he's had a post career as as
an analyst uh as well um you know I think having the nickname LT when kind
of Lawrence Taylor was there first uh doesn't help but uh when you look at his
numbers uh he's right there with with the great running backs I don't know if people realize that uh as much as I do
uh Aaron Rogers you know quirky guy uh and I know Scott is you know knows him
probably more than most and you know he's got the Packers have a couple lar
one against my Steelers by the way thank you Rashard mendenhal for fumin uh but
uh you know you know Aaron Rogers is a packer Legend love him or or hate him uh
that's not debatable and that's obviously an iconic card uh as well uh
you know they the last they these kind of round out of the ballot here with 2001 and 2005 might be tough again with
with some of those vintage heavyweights but these cards are both uh worthy uh
have the have the field been uh you know not as strong but the fields always GNA be strong I'll let you guys kind of
weigh in here as we uh close out the ballot yeah um my first thought on LT is
you know he might suffer from a little bit of you know kind of being on that West coast and playing for the Chargers
that that might affect the voting overall I would think towards him um but you can't deny um he deserves to be
there you know beating Paul Horning's record for points into season and all those touchdowns he scored and um you're
seeing a couple tops Chrome cards they kind of really took over that 2000s to 2010 early you know I think 2014 or 2015
was its last time we saw it um but you know that those are the main rookie cards for those players so um LT
deserves deserves that he is one of the best running backs to do it I think and then the Rogers love him or hate him you
know he does have some relevance still um and he is going to go down as one of the best throwers of the football ever
you know still holds NFL records for passer rating efficiency touchdown the interception ratio so um and that card
is very conditioned sensitive actually with centering and chipping and things so um certainly I think deserves a shot
on the back yeah and Rogers was reintroduced into the ballot um this year uh LT first year on the ballot uh
but kind of you know we had Chrome for a couple years but 01 it kind of took over and and became the top Set uh those
rookies were all refractors which was pretty cool and a new thing for that and then numbered out of 9999 which pretty big deal too so the cardboard of those
two uh players mean something as well but uh you know both very significant
players uh Rogers still has lots of records for his efficiency and his uh his lack of turning the ball over and
things like that and uh a whole pile of M PS as well and then leanian tomson does absolutely suffer from playing with
the Chargers and not making it far into uh postseason football year after year but uh if you were you know good
football fan and switched over to CBS every once in a while and and saw those AFC games you know he was doing
something magical on a regular basis yeah no doubt man 45 cards you know
individually in their own right they all could get in only five will make it one out of nine so that's so that's the
that's the odds so there's going to be a lot of there's going to be five great cards making it there's going to be 40
great cards not and uh have to you know give it a shot uh next year uh Ray at
this point I'll I'll put again I'm going to put this in the show notes so even if you don't you know catch it utterly go
