of close to each other so kind of do a
card show review that we do from time to
time and also a little bit of the stated
of a hobby kind of the things I'm seeing
through the card shows but not just uh
at the card shows uh alone so kind of a
card show review slash state of the
union if you will so with that being

Let's Go Round The Hobby verse and catch
up on this week's hobby
news and find
out it's show Showtime as in show he
oani the first ever 5050 guy 50 homers
50 steals uh you know I've been a
baseball fan since the late 70s early
80s if you will and U I never thought
we'd see a 5050 guy so incredible feat
uh I've talked about him before you know
he's going to be arguably Baron injury
or or major setback a one of the
greatest players of all time and he had
uh one of the SE best seasons of all
time he had one of the best games of all
time to get to 50/50 6 for six three
dingers two Steel deals four runs and 10
ribbies uh takes guys two three weeks to
get uh get those kind of numbers he did
it in a three-hour span just an
incredible player and he hasn't even
pitched this year uh and he had one of
the most incredible seasons and you know
makes you wonder is it worth risking
injury pitching to not have him in the
Batters box and that's a question for
another day but I obviously as a result
his cards have always been uh in demand
but uh just went to the next uh level
you you'll hear me in the uh the main
topic segment I I just did some shows
and uh recent accolades have have you
know really put a dent in my uh Shi
inventory uh if you will so congrats to
him you know at the whole gambling thing
I think I've said it before I'm I'm not
going to shy away from it I think
there's a cover up going on on because I
think baseball knows he's kind of the
face of the of of the league right now
and uh you got a you know you got other
young stars but he's he's the man of the
moment and um you know I hate I hate to
think that way uh but uh you know that's
my that's my honest opinion uh new tops
product uh so kids save your money it's
only $8,000 a box ask mom or dad for a a
rais in your allowance uh it's called
The Mercury product which is they're
going to release more of these
especially with their exclusive athletes
in this case it's uh Victor wanana uh
it's eight cards in the box so $11,000
per cards uh per card they all eight
cards are encased in a MAG Tite sealed
uh two Autos guaranteed per per box geez
thanks uh tops for eight grand I would I
would hope so uh there are dual Autos
with chases with numerous other players
in wemi but the big one being the first
wemi LeBron James uh dual Auto cards
coming out on October
9th uh so uh kids again uh save your
money but this Mercury product they're
going to uh use it on first year player
so uh you know going to be high OB not
going to be it is highend and uh you
know for to each their own right but uh8
8K a
box all right speaking of tops they're
voting for the number one card in the
year 2025 Flagship box which is not
$8,000 uh a piece thankfully uh is open
they have one candidate from each team I
believe the three contenders in my mind
for number one is the man we just talked
about Shi I think Bobby Whit Jr also has
a shot an outside chance and Paul SK
from the Pirates but I got a feeling
you're going to see shoh as the number
number one card on the 2025 tops uh
product but if you don't want them to be
go out there and get get voting uh for
other candidates you feel uh you you
would rather see uh Mattel you know we
had Monopoly prism now we have Mattel
football Uno now it's still the game
they're just using uh the NFL players uh
likenesses on the Uno cards uh so it's
not not exactly like the pris a monopoly
with packs and that sort of thing but
it'll be interesting to see if at all
these these carts people list these I'm
sure they'll get listed but if there's
any secondary market for individual
cards from the Mattel uh Uno set we
we'll have to wait and see there and we
we'll close with the uh cgc has opened
their full-time residence in the
Fanatics collect uh vault in
Oregon formerly p WCC uh they have a
full-time operations uh Fanatics collect
members can submit cards uh for grading
and storage at the Fanatics collect
Vault there if you so too they also
offer a cheap a cheaper uh version where
you don't get a grade but they'll
authenticate the card as real for I
think three four or five bucks somewhere
uh around that uh price low so uh
there's uh this week's and now now our

Presentation all right got a couple
shows to kind of weigh in on give my
observations these will be from a dealer
perspective uh as I set up at both of
these shows so uh both shows uh very
good uh let's start with the first one
we'll go in chronological order
September 8th at the New York State
fairgrounds in Syracuse New York I
always refer to this as my home show
it's 4.5 miles from my house to the New
York State fairgrounds and it was the F
the last show at the fairgrounds uh
these collector fests were April uh 21st
so uh not quite five months but almost
five months a couple weeks shy of five
five months so a lot of the locals here
in the Syracuse area were chopping at
the bit uh for the fairground show now
there is another Syracuse show a smaller
one in a hotel uh not my favorite I
usually don't even go and I usually well
not usually I don't set up and I don't
even go even as a from a collector's
perspective so uh you know those that
really look forward to this show had
almost a f Monon wait from the last show
to the September 8th show and it was
apparent a lot of people were there a
lot of people buying it was my second
second best show of the Year very close
to being uh my best show of the year so
comes in uh at second place by probably
50 bucks uh that's how close it was so a
lot of SGC submissions uh sold some big
cards uh traffic was good and uh you
know goes to show you sometimes if you
don't over saturate shows right you'll
you'll get that sort of response it's
that that balancing of the scale
uh if you will so let's go to the show I
just did just completed um September
21st so a couple weeks later the monthly
show that I do in Watertown New York uh
SG subtable was pretty steady wasn't uh
didn't break any records there but uh
solid and steady and had a really good
show on my card side of thing for
selling cards and I've I've changed my
setup uh folks how I do it i' I've using
some new I'm using the card catalogs
from bcw replaced uh some of these
smaller boxes uh and I've really gone
all plastic I don't have any cardboard
boxes um anymore on my table so one
plastic it's more durable more rugged I
can get a little more physical carrying
the stuff around I don't have to worry
about boxes falling apart or replacing
uh and again a very strong show okani as
you might imagine uh was the man of the
hour sold quite a bit of Otani
otanis that became hard to say um but I
also sold quite a bit like the days
leading up to that show on um you know
selling platform so I didn't have I have
a a decent amount of Shan uh Otani
inventory but not as much now cuz
between selling what I had at the show
and the days leading up to the Show
online uh really put a dent uh in my
okani inventory and I have now I don't
put everything out so I I have some kind
of in reserve that I'm probably holding
on to longterm uh if you will CJ stoud
was another popular player where people
ask for and as always I sold a lot of
vintage and I just it's it's getting
harder to replace you know raw sort of
off-grade vintage so I'm going to have
to try to get some lots of those and
kind of re replenish my my boxes if you
will and um you know the new setup uh I
take up less table space um so I'm able
to put more stuff out it's easier to uh
set up and unload I used to be the last
one out of shows I'm no longer that and
that's that's an accomplishment in
itself I'm actually the guys I usually
set up with especially at the Watertown
show we're almost leaving at the same
time and usually I'm an hour behind them
so I've made some changes to the show
setup the what I use how I how I set up
and it's made uh it's made a world of
difference uh TimeWise and uh that's
nice it's nice to you know sort of be
able to hit the road you know when the
show finally is over uh sooner than
comparatively speaking to what you what
I usually do and especially when with
the water town it's an hour drive home
uh for me so the earlier I get on the
road uh the better but uh not a deal
breaker uh either way so two good shows
in a row I got a couple weeks off from
from the show circuit to to kind of
restock reload uh get ready for the uh
next shows if anyone listening I rarely
do this but if anyone listening has some
vintage stars and semi Stars raw you
know don't they don't have to be you
know in gradable shape you know
especially in Lots uh contact me or the
show uh social medias and uh see but we
can we can get a deal done there's a
plea for for uh you know restocking uh
By Me So if you think you might be able
to help uh let me know stars and semi
Stars I'm not looking for comments but
um you know if you got something you
know I I also peruse the message boards
or you know the the Facebook uh selling
groups but uh again let me know but uh
so two great shows got a little break
here um let's talk a little bit you know
I kind of
like the the title of the show right
little State of the Union Topps
composite uh came out which is their
unlicensed football brand features some
rookies and Veteran retired players with
no logos although uh some logos sort of
partially shown which I find interesting
I know we talked about on hobby hotline
that you know if panini would have done
something like that there'd be lawsuits
and and injunctions to stop you know
stop the sale and all that stuff but
tops and I feel the reason is obvious
they're at the same table with the
players and the players union no one's
going to say anything and so kind of a
double standard but uh you know that's
that's where we are you know right now
with you know Fanatics about to really
take a 75% strangle hold if you will in
the hobby that's going to we're closer
to that now obviously than we've ever
been we're a year or year or two away
and and closer Panini starting to wrap
up uh their ni nil deals which they have
to uh do um you know because they
they're going to survive right in some
form or capacity and function so they're
they're looking uh you know longterm to
uh try to survive and um they will
they'll just be a different type of
company so the landscape is is changing
uh quickly
um you know whether you like it or not I
tell I tell collectors right I don't
open much new stuff anymore I I know I
mentioned the composite I haven't opened
any I've seen it um someone gave me some
Steeler cards at the show cuz they know
that's my favorite team from that
product but I haven't opened it
personally and um you know if you don't
like what's going on there's other ways
to hobby like for me i' I'm I'm really
real I've always been vintage but I've
really slanted heavily more so than ever
before folks on on the Vintage side of
the house so you know I could say the
new the new terrain doesn't affect me
but I love the hobby I do content
creation we got to talk about it it does
it does affect me in the fact that I'm
passionate and I care about it right I
want to see the best that can happen to
the Hobby doesn't always work out uh
like that but uh you know if you don't
enjoy the new stuff buy stuff that's
been already printed as I pretty much
you know not 100% but almost 100% do and
um you know that whatever whatever you
have to do to the to enjoy the hobby
there's multiple ways uh to to do it
more break-ins uh you know it seems like
every week including uh one of the
sponsors of this show right the sports
card shop for this I believe the second
time there New Buffalo Michigan store
was broken into and you're just hearing
that again way way too much much and as
people more aware of what these cards
are worth or potentially worth these
stores are targets uh and U it's sad
because you know people you know as a
former store owner which I was uh you
know you work hard to build your store
build your inventory build your business
you know many people who own stores this
is their full-time job this is their
livelihood and to see someone just come
in and take that away or try to take
some of that away just really piss PES
me off pardon my French and uh even
though it's not my stuff it's just the
the the whole premise of it and um we
need to get more you know uh local laws
and and federal laws we need to get
tougher laws you know you read a lot of
times even when they catch these
perpetrators and and committers of these
crimes they get slaps on the wrist and
so there's no deterrent right there's no
deterrent for people who see that to not
try it themselves and we we need to get
stronger stronger penalties uh for for
thefts and and things like that until we
do you know we're we're going to
probably continue to see a rash of of
burglaries and uh sad sad to see and I
hope I root for every uh LCS owner out
there that it doesn't uh happen uh to to
you so you know uh going back to some
local news you know I mentioned that
Watertown show is a monthly show I do
Watertown New York north of me here in
Syracuse about an hour hour um in
November they got JSA appearing uh at
their show and so that will be uh pretty
neat I have I just bought a collection I
if you follow me on social media you saw
pieces of it I I did post it some manual
autos and there was a luk l Garett Cut
Auto that uh looks little legit but
again I got to get it authenticated so
uh I'm going to use that Wednesday uh
that uh you know November appearance by
ASA to get some of that collection
authenticated and um you know going back
to that collection I don't think I've
talked about it on on the show um but
you know I thought it was going to be
more cars and then when I got there it
was more uh autograph memor B there was
some cards uh uh nothing crazy to write
home about but there was some and uh so
you know I got a pretty decent deal on
it uh I normally don't like to buy
memorabilia but it was too good of a
deal like to not do and a couple Billy
Joel Autos in there you a lot of you
know I'm a huge Billy Joel guy so those
were in in there and um probably two to
300 autographed 8 by10 there were some
Perez steel uh autograph cards I think a
I'm I'm very comfortable saying I think
you know a good percentage of it is
legit and uh you know there were seven
manual Autos five of them look real to
me to our our questionable nature but
we'll get those uh we'll get those
verified I talked about the l l gar Cut
Auto there's some other stuff there's a
Jim Brown uh signed uh book um that the
the seller told me they that she got
that signed in person so it's 100% again
that'll probably be something uh I just
get uh you know authenticated for
authenticity purposes obviously um so
that that November appearance by J JSA
in the Watertown show which is a small
show so it's kind of cool that they're
coming to that show how how often they
do I don't know we'll we'll see but uh
uh that that it's perfect timing uh for
me to get some of that stuff sort of you
know authenticated and you know the
stuff that is going to get resold you
know come to Market with it so uh that
kind of wraps up you know my show review
We Touch a little bit
on some of the things going on the hobby
let's keep this uh episode short and
sweet plus I'm I'm pretty tired it was a
busy busy weekend Syracuse football then
